Wadströms Exploranation Laboratory

Level 5, also referred to as ExpLab. An exploranation space — exploration plus explanation — built around a set of interactive stations rather than a single projection system. Its main audience is upper secondary school students working on their own research projects, plus visiting groups.

Because it is many small independent systems instead of one big one, faults here are usually local to one station and low-risk to fix. That makes it a good space for a new technician to start in.

Stations

Each station is a numbered position with its own computer and content. Some stations have two machines — a -V and a -C — and the naming follows EXPLAB-<station>-<role>.

TODO verify with senior technician

The migrated source page states plainly that its information needs updating. Confirm the current station numbering, what content each station now runs, and what the -V and -C suffixes denote.

Daily open and close

This space does not have a full operator manual because it is normally left running rather than driven by an operator. The daily routine is:

Opening

  • Walk the room and confirm every station is showing its content, not a desktop, a login screen or a screensaver.
  • Confirm the globe is running.
  • Confirm touch and input devices respond at each station.

Closing

  • Return any station left in a menu or paused state to its idle content.
  • Note any station that needed restarting during the day — a station that needs a daily restart has a real underlying fault.
TODO verify with senior technician

Confirm whether the stations are powered down overnight or left running, and whether there is a scheduled restart.
